Donor Spotlight:         Hal Fogelman

Q&A with Board Member Hal Fogelman

What inspired you to support M.O.S.T. by being a board member?

For Memphis to reach it’s potential we must do all we can to give our young people the best education possible; certainly M.O.S.T. has that as a central mission.

When you think about on your own educational experiences, what you are most thankful for?

The opportunity to have taken classes in a variety of subject matters, which showed just how many different paths one can take in his or her life.

What advice would you give to M.O.S.T. students to keep them engaged in learning through college and beyond?

That they have a long life and career ahead of them. Don’t try to have everything figured out today. Make the most of all educational opportunities that come your way, be a good person, and often the rest will take care of itself.

Tell us about an outstanding teacher in your life and how he or she influenced you.

The teachers who most influenced me were not only outstanding teachers from an academic standpoint, but also showed a genuine interest in my life outside the classroom. In particular, Ellis Haguewood and Tom Brown at MUS; Chuck Orvis at Rhodes.

What book is currently on your nightstand?

Katie Couric,
Going There

What is your favorite thing to do on a day off?

Exercise and maybe a meal at one of Memphis’ great restaurants.
