Volunteering is a great way to give back to your community and make a difference in someone else's life. It can also be a great opportunity to learn new skills and meet people. If you're considering volunteering, here are some tips to get started. The holidays are an inspirational and perfect time to bring joy to others by giving time.

Soup Kitchen Volunteer
One of the most popular ways of giving back during the holidays is by volunteering at a soup kitchen. Soup kitchens provide hot meals to those in need, and they rely heavily on volunteers to help prepare and serve food. This is a great opportunity for groups or families to get involved together.

Food Drive Volunteer
Another way to help fight hunger is by volunteering for a food drive. Food drives collect non-perishable food items that will be distributed to local pantries and shelters. This is a great opportunity for businesses, schools, or community groups to get involved.

From helping folks get their food vouchers, to spending time with and delivering meals to our local senior citizens, there are a number of way for you to support the independence of vulnerable seniors and families in crisis with MIFA.

Toy Drive Volunteer
For many children, the holidays are a time of excitement and anticipation as they wait to see what Santa will bring them. But for some children, the holidays can be a difficult time. You can help make a child’s holiday brighter by volunteering for a toy drive. Toy drives collect new, unwrapped toys that will be distributed to children in need.

Theatre Volunteer
Music and the arts bring joy to audiences, and the show must go on at all costs. Help our local theatres light up the stage. Possible opportunities include backstage crew, costume stitchers, lighting assistants, ushers, scenery and prop designers, and even performers.

The Memphis Grizzlies Foundation
The TEAM UP Youth Mentoring Partnership is an affiliate of the National Mentoring Partnership (MENTOR), the unifying champion for expanding quality mentoring relationships in the United States. The Partnership serves as a clearinghouse for training, resources, awareness, and advocacy, providing the critical link between MENTOR’s national efforts and local organizations and programs that foster and support quality mentoring relationships.

Room in the Inn
Room in the Inn hosts homeless guests at congregations throughout Memphis during their emergency shelter seasons (November through March, May through September). Right now, volunteers are needed to write get well letters and create storytelling videos for young children.

Memphis Rox Climbing Gym
Memphis Rox is a local family institution that uses rock climbing as a means to foster community. From cleaning climb holds, to distributing lunch to the neighborhood residents, and sorting donations and maintaining the Community Closet, there are plenty of opportunities for you to make an impact.

Hope lives at the Memphis Child Advocacy Center. Their vision is a community where children are safe, families are strong and victims become children again, through prevention, education and intervention.

In October 2018, the Hospitality Hub partnered with the Downtown Memphis Commission to create a pilot street outreach program aimed at connecting homeless people with available services.
