Finishing Strong: Alex's Journey as a MOST College Recipient

Written by MOST Staff | Feb 6, 2026 7:00:00 PM

MOST believes that investing in local students strengthens the city's future, and therefore supports McDonnell Scholars who choose to stay in Memphis for college by covering up to $10,000 per year in living expenses. This commitment allows scholars to focus on their education while preparing to pay it forward as future Memphis community leaders. Through this program, Alex Gonzalez was able to attend Christian Brothers University, where he is now in his final year, majoring in civil engineering.

MOST made it possible for Alex to attend Christian Brothers High School before CBU, where he developed the discipline and work ethic that prepared him for college. That foundation, combined with the opportunity to attend the school that best fit his needs, helped pave the way for him to continue his education at Christian Brothers University.

"I have been part of the Christian Brothers community for a long time. It really helped shape how I approach school and responsibility. I always remind myself why I started. I do not want to give up when things get hard and my foundation at CBHS, along with the financial support has really helped me. Knowing I had MOST behind me took a lot of pressure off. It helped me focus on school instead of constantly worrying about finances."

Now in his final semester at CBU, Alex is focused on completing his degree and preparing for what comes next. Like many MOST alumni, Alex hopes to continue building a future rooted in stability, purpose, and giving back to the Memphis Community.

Alex's journey is a reminder of what is possible when students are given access to schools that best fit their needs. From the moment a student becomes a MOST scholar through graduation, MOST supports scholars and their families every step of the way by offering guidance, encouragement, and resources that go far beyond financial support.

As Alex prepares to graduate, we celebrate his academic success, perseverance, and dedication to his future. We are honored to congratulate him as he reaches this well-earned accomplishment.
