Private Schools
Simply put, private schools are schools that are not run by the government and typically charge tuition. Just because you pay tuition to a school, does not necessarily make it a better school than the various free options. However, if the school is the right fit for your child and family, the extra cost can certainly be a great investment in your child's future.
Choosing the Right Private School
A private school is not likely to publish its students' test scores for you to look at, so you may need to do a little more digging to determine if the school is really providing the kind of education it advertises. The National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) has a great Parents' Guide that can walk you through the steps of researching, applying to, and financing private schools.
After you've looked through that, you'll want to check out Memphis' Private Schools. Click on Financial Assistance for a list of schools that offer significant financial assistance for families who qualify.
