The application process for the 2008/2009 school year is now closed to persons who did not attend one of our Spring Information Meetings. In order to get on our mailing list to receive information about applying for a scholarship for students entering preschool, kindergarten or first grade in 2009, please email us your name, address and phone number.
For families who did attend one of our Information Meetings but did not receive a scholarship this year, an application will be mailed to you in the spring, providing you have a child entering first grade or below. You will not need to attend another Information Meeting.
A completed application packet is composed of the following:
- The New Student Application Form (handed out at meeting)
- Proof of all individuals in your household, either listed on your tax return, or a birth certificate
- Documentation of all income which includes all of the following:
- A copy of your signed 2007 tax return (Form 1040)
and copies of all your employee-issued W2s
- Documentation of any government assistance (AFDC, SSI, food stamps, etc)
- Documentation of any child support
- If support is court-ordered, please provide court documents
- If it is not court-ordered, please have the paying party sign a statement detailing how much and how often you are paid.
- Documentation of any other income you may receive
Please supply copies of your documents, not originals, to submit. Applications must be mailed (not faxed) to the MOST offices. Preference will be given to applications submitted by May 1, 2008.
Families submitting applications will be notified when MOST has received the application. All applicants will be notified by May 16, 2008, as to whether or not they will receive a scholarship. For those receiving scholarships, further instructions will be included with the award letter.
If you have questions about the application process, please contact the MOST office.
Some things to consider before applying:
- Eligibility for scholarships is based on family size and income. If your family makes more than the amount listed on the far right side for your family size on the eligibility chart, you will not qualify for a scholarship.
- MOST gives only partial scholarships. Scholarship amounts are based on your family income, the tuition of the school you choose to attend, and the amount of any additional financial aid you receive. The maximum a child in 8th grade or below can receive for one school year is $1,850, and high schoolers can receive up to $2,150. The rest of your tuition, plus any other fees (activities, books, uniforms, after-care, etc.) must be paid by the family or with other scholarships.
- Stability is important in a child's education. The most common reason families have for dropping out of the MOST program is that they can't afford to continue tuition payments at their private school. Please seriously evaluate your financial situation and determine whether it is feasible to make private schooling a long-term commitment for your family.
